EB HOPE Completes First Month of its Community Substance Abuse Outreach Drop-In Center

Last Thursday EB HOPE held the 2nd of its bi-monthly open house-style community outreach substance abuse drop-in center sessions.  At last Thursday’s session, EB HOPE tripled their first session total with nearly two dozen persons visiting the Drop-In Center at the Community Covenant Church, #400 Pleasant Street, East Bridgewater.

To-date, EB HOPE has assisted nearly three dozen local individuals for substance abuse related issues.  Of this total, over 1/3rd of the individuals are persons suffering from substance abuse while the others were family members or friends of persons suffering from substance abuse.  EB HOPE is tracking general information to analyze its program’s effectiveness and make future changes to this program.  Nearly 2/3rd’s of the Drop-In Center visitors have been residents of East Bridgewater and West Bridgewater (East Bridgewater being represented with the most visitors).

The number one answer provided for how the visitors have learned of the Drop-In Center was the Reverse 911 call utilized last Thursday, notifying all residents of the program in the towns of West Bridgewater, East Bridgewater, Bridgewater, Rockland, Whitman, Hanson, and Halifax.  The Reverse 911 call was provided through the Plymouth County Sherriff’s Department CODE RED Emergency Alert System (http://www.pcsdma.org/codered.html).

Of the total Drop-In center guests serviced so far, females have accounted for more than half.  The largest 10-year age group of visitors has been in the 16-29 year old age group.  A third of the visitors have been between the ages of 50-81.  Last Thursday seven (7) Narcan enrollment sessions were conducted through the BAMSI representatives.

Narcan has been responsible for reversing Opioid overdoses and saving the lives of (77) people this year in the communities of East Bridgewater, West Bridgewater, Bridgewater and Whitman.  To-date this year, there have been (118) Opioid overdoses reported to the Police and Fire in these same communities, with (16) resulting in fatalities.

EB HOPE hosts the Substance Abuse Drop-In Center on the first and third Thursdays of each month between the hours of 5 pm and 9 pm at East Bridgewater’s Community Covenant Church.  The Drop-In Center is available to anyone, regardless of the town where a person resides and is designed to help those persons suffering from addiction as well as family members or friends of persons suffering from addiction.  The next scheduled session is Thursday, December 3rd.
